Abstract: A brief introductory commentary is given here to a formerly unpublished paper by Vladislav M. Illich-Svitych, dealing with issues of reconstruction of Proto-Kartvelian vocalism; the author adds a short evaluation of the paper in light of contemporary views on the issue in Kartvelian historical linguistics.
